Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine is the top ranked veterinary program in the nation. We are currently pursuing a degree in veterinary nursing through Purdue.
Companion Animal Sciences Institute is a provider of advanced science-based professional education in animal behavior, training and nutrition. We hold the institute's diploma of Canine Behavior Science and Technology.
We are Certified Dog Trainers through the Animal Behavior College, a leading dog training institute. This certification covers all areas of canine and puppy training including learning theory and problem solving from birth through adulthood.
We have completed the Puppy Start Right program for Instructors with the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training & Behavior.
Pet nutrition and feeding management are important to the care of your Berner. That's why we are certified Pet Nutrition Coaches with the NAVC (North American Veterinary Community), a leading veterinary professional association.
We hold the Pet Nutrition Certificate from VETgirl that covers education in pet diets, grain free diets, pet obesity, urolithiasis management and other important topics in veterinary nutrition.
Nutrition is one of the most important factors in disease management and maximizing the health, performance and longevity in pets. We are pursuing the Pet Therapeutic Nutrition Coach certification through the NAVC.
The Fear Free Animal Trainer program is designed to teach techniques that alleviate stress, fear and anxiety of animals during training, care and grooming. We are certified Fear Free Professional trainers.
The American Red Cross offers emergency care and first aid courses for pets. We are certified in canine first aid and CPR.
Appalachian State is a top Southeastern public university located in Boone, NC, right next to SCF! We have a degrees in communications and finance from AppState.
We are certified Evaluators with the AKC, approved to teach and test multiple AKC training programs such as Canine Good Citizen, AKC Star Puppy, Temperament Test, Fit Dog and Trick Dog.
The human animal bond is important to the mental and physical health of animals and their people. We hold the Human Animal Bond certification with the NAVC.
Professional Organization Memberships
The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America is the nation's largest association of Veterinary Technicians. We are members of the NAVTA.
We are members of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT). The APDT is one of the largest global associations of canine training professionals.
We are members of the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, the leading certifying body for therapy dogs. We are passionate about training select members of our canine pack for therapy work.
Other Education and Training
We have taken many classes through the AKC including: CGC evaluation; Bernese judging; immunology; allergy and aging; predicting lymphoma; dog breeding and pedigree; disease and sanitation; and canine genetics and health.
Puppy Culture is a socialization and training program for puppies beginning at birth, with age appropriate protocols and lessons. We are trained in the Puppy Culture program and use these techniques with all litters whelped at SCF.
Tellington Ttouch Training is a specialized approach to the care and training of dogs used by trainers, breeders, veterinarians and other canine professionals. We have taken several classes in the Ttouch training methods.
FDSA is a dog education and training provider. We have completed classes on puppy crate training, socialization and confidence building, separation anxiety, canine health and longevity, and genetics and personality.
Midwoofery is an excellent dog breeding educational resource. We have completed several courses with Midwoofery including "Nutrition for Breeders" and "Canine Embryology and Fetal Development".
The World Small Animal Veterinary Association is a global association of veterinary professionals offering excellent educational resources. We have completed several courses with the WSAVA on pet nutrition.
VetFolio is the online and continuing education arm of the NAVC. We have completed over 20 classes on topics ranging from large breed puppy nutrition, socialization, nutritional impact on behavior, leptospirosis, UTIs, etc.
VetGirl is a CE provider for veterinarians. We have completed courses on commercial diets, vaccinology, pancreatitis, abdominal torsion, dystocia and C-Sections, reducing GDV, gut microbiome and K9 zoonotic risks. .
CERTIFIED DOG TRAINERS
Here at Sunny Chestnut Farm, we are passionate about the training and lifelong growth of our dogs. Our dogs are our friends and companions and we invest a significant amount of time and resources into their long term learning and socialization.
We are certified dog trainers through the Animal Behavior College and members of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. We take the lead role in the continuous training of our dogs in conjunction with regular attendance at local dog training classes.
EXCEPTIONAL TRAINING REGIMEN
The Sunny Chestnut Farm canine crew have completed numerous training courses and achieved a variety of training certifications through the AKC and other organizations such as the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Each of our dogs have their courses and badges on their respective webpages. We are always working on something new at the training center so check back often for updates!
