Excellent All Around Family Companion
We love Bernese Mountain Dogs for many reasons but we would sum it up by saying that they are one of the best all around dogs for families. Originally from the mountains of Bern, Switzerland where they were used to herd cattle and as draft dogs pulling carts on the farm, they are sweet natured, friendly and great with children of all ages.
They love any type of outside activity and are always up for a hike or romp at the park with their family. Berners bond very closely to their families, often establishing an especially close bond with one lucky family member. They are very affectionate dogs that love to please making them easily trainable, and are also very athletic and excel at advanced dog sports like Agility, Rally and Parkour.
Berners are large dogs with strikingly beautiful tri-color thick coats. While they are adaptable to many climates, they really love cold weather. They are strong, sturdy and love to work, but are generally not chewers or destructive. Their large size makes them imposing but not threatening, and they are appropriately protective of their owners and homes.
